Broken Foot 4 - Six Week Update

Thursday, October 3, 2013

I stopped by the orthopedist's office today so that they could take some x-rays of my foot and evaluate how well the bone's been healing.

The fracture is healing normally with no complications. The orthopedist suggested I keep weight off it for another two weeks. At which point I should start putting up to half of my body weight on it (also, that's when she said it would probably be safe for me to start driving again - will it still be camping weather then?).

Getting around the house is much easier now than it was even two weeks ago. I can ascend and descend stairs while carrying a thing, so that's a major improvement. I can move around on my toes without the crutches if I have to (though I don't like to do that for long).

I took some pictures of the x-rays while they were displayed on the monitor in the exam room. I completely failed to ask the doctor what was going on with my first metatarsal and medial cuneiform (as in this shot). Is this normal? This can't be normal. I'm sure it has nothing to do with the accident (as I strongly suspect my left foot mirrors this behavior). I've got a second (final?) follow-up appointment in six more weeks. Maybe I'll remember to bring it up, then.
